Dark art is a subject, not a shortcut.
Reapers, skulls, masks and memento mori imagery have been tattooed for a very long time, which means most of it has been tattooed badly at least once. The difference between a dark art piece that lands and one that does not is almost always the drawing: anatomy that holds up, a silhouette that reads, and a value structure that does not collapse into grey.
Lex works this subject matter in black and grey and in solid blackwork, depending on what the piece needs. The reference point is painting rather than other tattoos.
